         Fr. John Joseph Leahy ss.cc. [aged 69]
                    was called home to the Lord
                on Monday 27th November 2017
                    at his sister Teresa's home
                    in Ballyneety, Co. Limerick

 

John was born on 8th August 1948 to John Joseph Leahy & Mary Jane Connolly, in Ballybay, Co Monaghan. He was educated at Primary School in Ballybay; St Macartan’s College, Monaghan; Trinity All Saints College, Horsforth, Leeds; Alan Hall Seminary, Chelsea, London and Mill Hill Missionary Institute, London.

After entering the Novitiate of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts in Hemet, California, USA, John made his First Profession on 25thAugust 1984 in Sacred Heart Chapel, Tanagh, Cootehill, Co Cavan. Following Ordination on 24th June 1990 [also in Tanagh], he was assigned Curate to Sacred Heart Parish, Sruleen, Clondalkin, Dublin 22. He was Curate in St Augustine’s Parish, Daventry, Northants, England from 1992-1998. From 1998-2004 he served as Provincial Councillor and Parish Priest at St Thomas The Apostle, Nunhead, London. John enjoyed a sabbatical from 2004-2006 and in November 2006 was appointed Parish Priest to Our Lady of Lourdes, Acton, London, where he served until he became ill last December.

Father John Leahy, among other things, will be remembered for bringing great life and laughter to the Congregation and to his ministry. He will be deeply missed by his own family [sisters Anne, Mary, Bernie, Teresa, Margaret, Teresa Ryan and brother Michael], his religious family and his many friends.
